IKEA LILJEBAGGE: a roughly 15-euro Matter thermostat arrives in early 2027

IKEA's LILJEBAGGE radiator thermostat should reach German shops in early 2027, which IKEA confirmed to heise online according to SmarthomeAssistent. It is already on sale in Sweden, for 199 SEK, roughly 18 euros. It speaks Matter over Thread and, according to a German product page that so far can only be reached through a link in the IKEA app, should cost 14.99 euros. That figure is not officially confirmed.

What you need

Matter over Thread needs a Thread border router that connects the devices to your home network, plus a Matter controller. IKEA's DIRIGERA hub can do both. SmarthomeAssistent lists it at 74.99 euros, but it is not mandatory if suitable hardware is already in the house. The thermostat is named as compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. According to the Reddit reports that iphone-ticker.de summarises, it works with Apple Home without DIRIGERA.

Hardware

The box holds six valve adapters and five mounting cards. It runs on two AA batteries or rechargeables, which you buy yourself. SmarthomeAssistent says IKEA's LADDA rechargeables should last about 18 months; a reader comment on iphone-ticker.de quotes the LADDA 2450 mAh four-pack at 7.99 euros. Without a smart home connection you set the temperature with two buttons by the display, in 0.5 °C steps.

First impressions from Reddit reports

iphone-ticker.de summarises Reddit reports. The verdict there is mostly positive and the devices appear to work reliably. The housing shows some compromises in build quality, operating noise is low, and the motor is audible when the valve opens and closes. Several thermostats in one room gave nearly identical readings. The measurement can be corrected with an offset of up to 12.7 degrees. Installation is described as simple.

The reports also list some limits. Heating schedules cannot be stored on the device; without the IKEA hub they have to be built as automations in the controller. Window sensors are linked through automations, so the Thread network has to keep running. Apple's adaptive temperature control is not supported, and external sensors reportedly cannot replace the built-in one. Some of these points come from reader comments and are not verified.

What is still open

SmarthomeAssistent notes that IKEA names no window-open detection and that no independent hands-on test exists. Whether a FRITZ!Box works as a Matter gateway is answered inconsistently in the comments. And the price can still move before the sales start.

How we read it

The tado° X starter kit costs 154.99 euros on Amazon according to SmarthomeAssistent, albeit with accessories. At about 15 euros, an older building with many radiators becomes cheap to equip, provided the Thread network is already in place. Having to buy a hub first changes the maths. If you need schedules stored on the device, look at models that include them. Until the launch in early 2027 it is worth checking whether your existing router or controller supports Thread.

Questions?
When does the LILJEBAGGE reach Germany and what does it cost?+

IKEA told heise online it should go on sale in Germany at the start of 2027, with no exact date. A German product page, so far reachable only through a direct link in the IKEA app, lists 14.99 euros. IKEA has not officially confirmed the price. In Sweden it costs 199 SEK, roughly 18 euros.

Do I need the IKEA DIRIGERA hub?+

Not necessarily. Smartphone control needs a Thread border router and a Matter controller. DIRIGERA can provide both and is listed at 74.99 euros by SmarthomeAssistent. Anyone with suitable hardware, for example through Apple Home, can skip it. First user reports describe running it with Apple Home without DIRIGERA.

What is still unclear about the thermostat?+

There is no independent hands-on test. First impressions come from Reddit reports that iphone-ticker.de summarises. Those reports leave open on-device schedules and compatibility with some routers such as the FRITZ!Box. According to SmarthomeAssistent, IKEA also names no window-open detection.
